3-D Full-Scale Earthquake Testing Facility In Japan

The Japanese city of Kobe was devastated by a magnitude 6.8 earthquake in 1995.It was then that the Japanese engineers began building the 3D Full Scale Earthquake Testing Facility,known as the largest shaking table in the world. The table measures 20 meters by 15 meters and can take a load of up to 1200 tonnes.It moves by up to 2 meters per second in all three dimensions.The motion to the table is imparted by a huge system of pressurized oil pipes.
