Spectral Instruments, an Arizona-based company, is developing a gargantuan 1100 series camera that has a 112 megapixel CCD and is capable of shooting photographs of both the sun and the stars in broad daylight. The scientific cameras built by the company use a chip that is cooled to minus 100 degrees Celsius to do away with “dark currents”.
