Design Build Studio Project for the Farnsworth House

Professor Frank Flury’s Design Build Studio is seeking fundraising to build a new exhibition space at Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House which sustained damage from the flooding of the Fox River valley in 2008. In the studio the students not only design a project they are actually able to build and experience all phases from its concept to the finish carpentry. The existing visitor center is unable to accommodate the large 12' x 6' x 2' wardrobe which has created need for additional exhibition space to temporarily display the historic piece of furniture. The student team decided it would be appropriate to design in the local vernacular students and have spent the last two semesters designing a simple, contemporary round barn with a round floor plan that creates a natural exhibition space. The primary woods planned on for the space is 3/4" oak flooring as well as vertical board and batten cedar siding; however we are open to other species. Permit drawings have been submitted for review and now the team is seeking in-kind donations of construction material and equipment as well as monetary donations. http://www.barnsworthstudio.com/
