Beautiful Store Design

This eyewear store’s name, “Hofstede,” appears in white letters on a black background above the entry door. Right from this entrance, a sense of unusual form becomes apparent. The doorways here have irregularly curved top and side sections. Wood grain mixes with white painted curved areas that ebb and flow more like waves than traditional store spaces.

Architect Alexander Nowotny wanted to create an entertaining, walk through sculpture type of design for retail. He wanted shoppers to keep walking through the flowing, free-form space to discover the products in an amazing store environment. To help create impulse buying, Nowotny placed a sunglasses section close to the entryway. Lit-up posts of sunglasses placed on top of a rounded wood grain block unit, catch the eye.
