The Plane at Infinity
This shape is known by various names; Boys Surface,Semi-circular Canals(from the inner ear),but I like "the Plane at Infinity". This title is a quote from one of my favorite books called "Sensitive Chaos"by Theodor Schwenk about making sense of flowing forms in air and water. It's just been left out all winter so is now covered in rust... Even without a polished surface ,I find it a compelling shape. It is made from 6 industrial plumbing pipe elbows with a formed cap at the two intersections,as well as 3 anticlastic cold formed plates at each of the two vertices to make the intersections appear seamless...
