The Aperture by Make Studios
Framing a view of an associated residence in the distance, the Aperture exists as a minimalist sculpture in the landscape. It exists as the first and last element one sees on approach and departure to the residence. An 18’ x 9’ steel tube frame is clad with plate steel. This, in turn, is left to weather in the elements providing an honest material contrast with the surrounding context. An aspect ratio of 16:9 enhances the notion that one is an active participant in observing the house beyond. Newly planted sumac hedges flank both sides of the piece. The sculpture and hedge leaves will unify in a complimentary and fiery red in the autumn providing a dramatic contrast to the residence and the tall grass meadow which surrounds. The image changes with the seasons, the weather, and the color of the grass, snow, rain, and steel.
